It is OA UK Braai time again and once again David and Virginia Lardner-Burke have been kind enough to allow us the use of their lovely home for the occasion.
This year is significant as we have invited Old DSD girls along to join us at this annual gathering. David and Virginia have a swimming pool and a tennis court, so please bring swimming costumes and tennis shoes if you wish to use these facilities. Those bringing children should note that the swimming pool is not fenced. Please bring your own booze and on the food front, would all those OAs who plan to attend whose surnames begin with the letters A-L please bring a salad and those with surnames starting with M-Z please bring a pudding - in this way we should avoid there being too few greens and too many sweets. The cost of the braai covers the rolls, boerie, chops, plates and knives & forks, which the committee will provide on the day. As some of you already know, David and Virginia open up their garden to the public four days a year. One such open day will be very soon after the braai, so please be sure not to play sports which might damage the garden prior to the open day! Similarly chasing the swans is not a pastime we would suggest you encourage your children to partake in. Could I also have a couple of volunteers to help put out the tables, umbrellas, kettledrum-braai´s etc that need to be set out on the day to avoid David having to run around prior to our arrival. I am sure that with a couple of young hands arriving at 11:30am we will be able to get the job done in as little as a quarter of an hour. Those not arriving early are encouraged to help at the end of the day tidying up these things and Virginia´s kitchen. If you feel up to either of these tasks please let me know in your reply so I can get an idea of the size of the "work force" that might be expected. |
